Internet Car and Truck of the Year Semi-Finalists Named, Reader Voting Begins

by Chris Sawyer on September 16, 2009

The semi-finalists for the 2009 Internet Car and Truck of the Year have been chosen by a jury of 12 Internet-based automotive writers. They were asked to choose the best offerings from among new or substantially revised cars, trucks, SUVs and CUVs introduced between November 2008 and September 2009. From this group came the seven car and seven truck semi-finalists. That, however, is just the beginning.

Because the Internet is where 91% of consumers reportedly start the new car shopping process, the competition is encouraging readers to participate in the contest. By visiting the official website readers can cast their votes for Car and Truck of the Year from the list of semi-finalists between now and Noon on October 16, 2009. After tabulating those results, the three finalists in each category will be named October 19, and the process begins again for both jurors and readers. Voting for both groups ends November 13. Awards for Internet Car and Truck of the Year, as well as the Consumer Choice Vehicle of the Year, will be presented in December at a major auto show.

In addition, writers and bloggers are invited to submit with best automotive-related Internet pieces for judging in the Internet Automotive Journalism Contest. Only those articles written between September 1, 2008 and September 1, 2009 are eligible. Awards will be given in the following categories:

  • Best Feature written solely for the Internet
  • Best Automotive Review written solely for the Internet
  • Best Single Blog Entry
  • Best Series of Blog Entries

Winners in each category will have their work either presented on or linked to through the Internet Car and Truck of the Year website should original publication guidelines permit.
